MOWIT HONOREES ATTENDING TRADESWOMEN AWARDS GALA TO RECEIVE SENATE RESOLUTIONS

In addition to each awardee receiving a Senate resolution, MOWIT will also be honored with a resolution on behalf of the its work helping women enter and succeed in the union building trades. The honorees include:
Tradeswoman of the year: Cindy Frank, president of Carpenters Local 945 in Jefferson City
Tradeswomen Honorable Mentions: Kim Sachse, an IBEW Local 1 journeywoman, and Danyeal Crittenden, a Laborers’ Local 42 journeywoman.

Workforce Development Award: Beth Barton, a Tarlton carpenter and superintendent whose 13-year construction career helped her escape poverty and raise five children, is passionate about promoting it as a career choice among young people.
She hosts Girl Scout badge days and participates in Scout round-up days that teach girls construction skills and confidence. She has been an instructor for middle school girls at the Ranken Tools for Success construction camp.
MOWIT TO OFFER NEW CONSTRUCTION SURVIVAL SKILLS PROGRAM TO WOMEN ENTERING THE TRADES

Missouri Women in Trades (MoWIT) is gearing up to launch a pilot program to prepare women considering entering the construction trades with the survival skills they need to hit the ground running. MoWIT was awarded a $4,125 grant from the Women’s Foundation of Greater St. Louis to help fund the Construction Skills Survival program. Three workshops will be offered this year, but the dates have yet to be announced.
WOMEN LEARN ELECTRICAL WIRING AT MOWIT WIRE A LIGHT WORKDAY

Missouri Women in Trades (MoWIT) recently hosted a "Wire a Light Workday" held at the St. Louis Workers Education Society (WES). On June 8th, MoWIT worked with IBEW Local 1 to upgrade all of the lights at WES, where the MoWIT office is located. Attendees were able to learn about the basics of electrical wiring by actually performing the tasks. IBEW Local 1 journey workers supervised the attendees closely. The journey workers also shared information on how to become a union electrician.
