Welcome from Missouri Women In Trades (MOWIT)!
Have you been looking for a job change? Tired of your past career, maybe not earning enough? Consider a career in the union building trades! We can help, and YOU CAN DO IT!
The building trades offer excellent pay, benefits, and training. Women who work in the union trades have closed the wage gap more than anyone else! We have successfully referred scores of women into the local apprenticeship programs.
Here’s some info about us, and some resources to get you started: MOWIT is a 501 (c)3 non-profit led by volunteer tradeswomen devoted to recruiting more women into the union building trades of the St. Louis region, as well as retaining women who are in the trades. You will find we are a small but dedicated and powerfully helpful ally! All of our events are family-friendly and welcoming to all. Below you will find information on several different trades, pre-apprenticeship programs, and information about MOWIT programs.

Below you will find a wonderful, informative construction guidebook called “You Can Do It- A Woman’s Guide to Construction” by our sister organization, Chicago Women In Trades. It gives a basic overview of the union building trades industry, general application process, what construction work is like, how unions work, etc. We love this booklet because it is full of great info and is tailored to women who are brand new to union construction. Start here!

Another wonderful resource we'd like to share is the St. Louis Construction Cooperative book (arch on cover). This lists every St. Louis area local construction union, with information on where and how to apply to each unions’ apprenticeship program. If you know what trade you are interested in, use this to find out how to contact them and what the requirements are. It also contains a basic explanation of what every trade does. Very useful if you are considering multiple trade options.
